Hot Tack and Heat Seal Tester



The patented MAGMA is a laboratory test instrument that measures the hot tack and heat seal properties of film used in flexible packaging, bags and pouches. Under the control of Pilot software, MAGMA automatically creates and then tests heat seals under a programmable range of pressures, temperatures and dwell times. The tester tabulates and plots statistics such as heat seal strength versus temperature, hot tack strength versus temperature, and averages and standard deviations of force data. The test system meets and exceeds the test methods described in ASTM F1921.

Test three samples at one time

The MAGMA Hot Tack and Heat Seal Tester simultaneously tests three samples at each condition of pressure, temperature, dwell time, cooling time, and peel rate. During the peel operation load cells measure the individual load response of each specimen. Result: your test throughput is triple that of other testers.

Load samples quickly

Insert a specimen into each test station with a fast, single-motion action:

  • Simply grasp the top and bottom of the test specimen.
  • Slide it into the upper and lower side-entry grips.
  • Release.

Run sample sets unattended

Once a sample set is loaded simply hit "Start" in the Pilot software and let the system do everything for you. Under control of the Pilot software, MAGMA automatically seals the three samples, peels them, collects data and displays the results for instant review. Pilot automatically goes to the next temperature in the profile and prompts you for the next set of specimens.

Analyze and export data easily

Pilot software gives you powerful data analysis tools. Plot heat seal strength or hot tack strength versus temperature. View average force and standard deviation at each temperature. And analyze other test results too. Test data can be exported in CSV format for viewing and further analysis using third party spreadsheet software. Once test data is saved, Pilot Viewer software can be used to remotely access and analyze the saved data.

Configure, maintain and calibrate with no tools

  • Change seal jaws in seconds. It's a snap!.
  • Calibrate peel force transducers with integral calibration fixturing. Simplify your life.
  • Clean melted plastic from seal jaws with an easy release of a pin. Efficiency at its best.
  • Replace heater elements with a simple swivel of a heater block. Very cool!
